“How
the hell did you end up cooking?” Legates asked, wearing a smirk.
Ethan’s face furrowed since he knew Legates was up to no good but he
wasn’t sure where it was going.
“What are you talking about? Ethan’s the best outdoor cook in the county,” James said, grinning at Legates, “you been gone too long, man.”
“I guess since the last time I saw him cook, he put shrimp in the dishwasher, spices in the soap dispenser and beer in the rinse agent spot then ran it on high,” Legates said, taking a swig of his beer. James’ eyes shot to Ethan whose face and neck were turning red.
“Josh,” Ethan barked, making Legates burst into rolling laughter. Michelle tilted her head as Legates laughter drifted too her across the yard. Sadie smiled as a smile spread across Michelle’s face at her son’s laughter.
“What?” Legates asked, innocently while wearing a smirk.
“I’m telling Jen,” James said, turning on his heel.
“James, get back here,” Ethan barked, his face turning even more red.
“Who is Jen?” Legates asked, quirking an eyebrow at him.
“A girl,” Ethan mumbled, turning back to the grill. A petite brown haired girl with mile long legs came up behind Ethan.
“So, I hear you know how to use a dishwasher,” she said, bumping his hip with hers. The back of Ethan’s neck flushed and the tips of his ears turned bright red.
“Legates, I’m going to kill you,” Ethan grumbled. Jen’s laughter tinkled merrily and she turned to face Legates.
“So you’re the friend he said had mile long legs,” she said, eyeing his legs, “yeah I can see that. Does his dongle match?” She asked, wearing a leer as she looked at Ethan.
“Girl, I’m going to chase you with a dongle,” he threatened, wearing a smirk because he knew she was trying to get his goat. Legates shook his head remembering the dongle comment he’d made to Techie.
“Your dongle?” She asked, fluttering her eyelashes at him with a leer on her face.
“Dongle this, iPad that, smartphones everywhere,” Ethan’s mom said, walking past carrying a plate of cornbread. Legates let his head fall back and burst into laughter.
